The film is coded with DXVA. This means problems in some players, one of them is MPC. I guess your'e using MPC, so try another player, like Vlc and so on. I use ZoomPlayer, it's really, really good. Some movies actually looks better in ZoomPlayer, and heavy duty ones (mkv:s mostly) plays smoothly in ZoomPlayer (wich Vlc does badly).
It's "easy" to figure out what the REAL problem is by comparing comments: If some say the file is perfect and have no complaints about grainyness etc, and some say it's grainy, that means - logically - that the film really isn't grainy. What it means is that grainyness occurs under certain specific conditions, in your case most probably due to the player (how the player decodes DXVA).
Not many codes movies with DXVA because of this, so we can only hope bobjneff rethinks (as a service to the majority, not because there is something wrong with the movie).

Oh, yes there IS an "Extended Cut", and it's sometimes refered to as a "Special Edition". You see, in this context, "Extended Cut" and "Special Edition" are two terms being used for the same thing: They are "synonyms" to each other.

There is another way to find out if the movie is grainy or not, that is to look at screencaps the uploader provide. If the screencaps are NOT grainy, it's more than likely there is no problem with the movie-file itself.
I have never been able to open a preview pic from phyrefile, but bobjneff has FINALY stopped uploading sreencaps to phyrefile :-)

This is a flawless copy of the blu-ray, and it looks better than it did in the theater. Anyone complaining about the graininess has obviously never seen this movie before. Back in 1986, they used stuff called film. James Cameron used a new(at the time) high speed film for this movie and the result was a lot of grain. Afterwards Cameron said he liked it as it gave lv426 a more tense atmosphere. This is the extended cut, and it's exactly the way Cameron wanted Aliens to be in the first place and it looks and sounds fantastic.
