When three experimental "animal weapons" escape from their government facility, the full might of the military is mobilised to bring them down. But labrador "1", cat "2" and rabbit "3" have a different agenda - finding "home"...at any cost. We3 was written by Grant Morrison and artist Frank Quitely, who describe its kinetic style as "Western Manga". It was published in 2004 by the Vertigo imprint of DC Comics. We3 was nearly unanimously praised by critics, who particularly celebrated Morrison and Quitely's experimentation with panel layout and page design. For example, action scenes often depicted a large primary image overlaid with dozens of tiny panels showing extreme close-ups of individual actions. Morrison's characterization (the title characters are sympathetic, despite their limited communicative abilities) and pro-animal rights stance also attracted praise.
