So many people have bailed.......Come on people!!!........Patience is a virtue.

scruphgetup (2008-08-05)

Good things come to those who wait.

aronikun (2008-08-05)

Naa, a trait that is valued as being good is a virtue :P
Patience is enduring a difficult circumstance :P

aronikun (2008-08-05)

The idea of patience being a virtue is from a religious perspective :)

scruphgetup (2008-08-05)

Why patience a virtue?
Patience is a virtue because it makes us better people. The definition of the word is to tolerate delay. This implies self control and forebadance of what we want when we want it. How many times have we jumped the gun and found out it would have been better to tolerate delay or had self control? What did we miss out on? Did we hurt someone because of lack of pacience? Did our lives just change completely just because we couldn't control ourself? Patience is not only a virtue but a necessity for a happy exisitience.

I'd readily recommend this for anyone who's in contact with higher education in English. These words are more or less essential to the academic sphere.
A method I use for learning new words, and especially their spelling, is to carefully study their etymology; that is, the "origin and history" of the word. For example, the earlier mentioned 'anachronism' is a derivative of greek 'ana', meaning 'backwards' and 'khronos', meaning 'time'. It also enables interpretation of other words, such as 'synchronous' from greek 'sun-' (together) and 'khronos' (again: 'time').
The Concise Oxford English Dictionary (a version of which I have on my mobile phone) offers such etymological explanations.

Thanks. Did you post anything other than like this

furtherdown (2008-10-19)

Anachronistic is not a troublesome word in English, it's a completely unused word. Ambivalent and idiosyncrasy are used quite often.
I think most people here would be interested in downloading the audio book, "Learning to Spell Correctly for Stupid Fuckers". After you listen to that, you should get "Learning the Difference Between 'your' and 'you're' for Complete Assholes".

Fusse (2008-11-19)

@furtherdown
I love the way you are attempting to 'puzzle' together clauses in your first paragraph; and the unused/used repetition is ingenious - a pure work of art...
Let me suggest 'Less spelling, more writing' for you.

nimmy911 (2008-11-25)

thnx fr everything dear...i really like it

PirateFletch (2008-12-21)

eh, reasonably decent download, though i've yet to hear a word that I haven't known for 20 years.

A message to furtherdown
I'd imagine you are the kind of guy that everyone detests and furthermore has many enemy's.
I posted this torrent to help people that struggle with a poor vocab. I posted this in the spirit of helping others, so just be great full I took the time. It's assholes like you that discourage others from even wanting to attempt increasing their knowledge. Can I get an amen on that anyone.

1stw@sp (2009-01-07)

Yes by all means : Amen
Thank you for sharing.

"400 of the most essential yet troublesome words in the English language. The perfect companion when studying for the SAT examination."
Are you fucking serious?
This vocabulary booster did very little for me and I have a high school education. I do read a couple of books a week. Unfortunately, I know most Americans can't say that they read much or know most of the words these audio books teach. So I will seed for a long time.....a long time. Forever.
Cognizant, like in: "The vast majority of Americans are not cognizant"

zigmania (2009-02-02)

Wow. What a waste of time.
If you're a native English speaker, you probably will not learn a single new word from this. Ridiculously basic, and I'm not much of a reader.
If English is not your native tongue but you can understand what I've typed here, you probably won't benefit either. Oh, and I can't stand the haughtiness of the narrator's voice. I'd like to beat the crap out of that condescending prick.

SanzeeBoy (2009-02-04)

HAHA. Great book but I'm going to have to agree with the comment above. Let's teach this narrarator a lesson. Maybe he'll narrorate us kicking his ass while we're KICKING HIS ASS.

luckypig (2009-02-27)
