Well, in fact DirectVobSub works with WMP11 too, I've just tested it. (WMP doesn't support external audio tracks though, that's why I've ceased to use it.)

This can be watched on anything that has some h.264/AVC codec, some AC3 filter and some MKV splitter installed. A CPU fast enough to play HD movies smoothly is preferrable, of course.

AFAIK, there's no native support for MKV container on XBOX360. But you can convert it to MP4 or AVI using this guide:
