UPDATE: THE 1.7 update on apple.com will not work for this unless it's register under single player. If someone has the code it will work if not your fucked. My windows CD KEY worked on this BTW.
1.7 should fix the problem also run a lot smoother with 2-4x Anti-Aliasing

Don't worry - Mac OS Extended Journaled is the default format, Case Sensitive is another option - have a look at the info of your hard-drive under format... or check it out with Disk Util.

This WON'T work on any PowerPC Mac, 1st gen MacBook or 1st gen MacBook Air!
Don't bother because the graphics aren't good enough.
Although, because of the new designs and Apple's decision to move to nVidia control chips and graphics chips, if you're lucky enough to have one, you may be able to play it.
I don't know, because I have the 4th gen of the MacBook Pro. Not the new 5th gen.
The serial key is in the crack.
Open the crack folder, mount the DMG file, and hey-presto! There's the serial number!
As for not being able to copy the crack into the folder... I have no idea.

Version that comes with the torrent (as in the standard retail edition) is 1.5.
Most online servers (cracked or not) will be at version 1.7 so you'll have to update first if your willing to join them.
Aspyr has released two versions of the patch to upgrade 1.5 to 1.7.
- this one is meant for the edition sold as a retail DVD
- this other one is meant for the edition that can be officially downloaded from gameagent.com

I have tried both with this torrent (which I don't know if it was a DVD or a download) before and after appplying the patch and it always comes up with the same error: "The installation of Call of Duty 4 appears to be incomplete. Reinstalling may fix this problem"
If anyone has managed to upgrade the game to 1.7 with either patch, please post intructions on how to do it. That would be much appreciated.
Just for the record, to get the game to connect to a cracked server once patched to the latest version it is a breeze. There is plenty of tutorials out there for the Windows port that will work just as well.

Go to this for 1.7 patch.
All you do is double click on the file then accept, click on the call of duty 4 online option, wait for it to install and vwala!
You now have 1.7 installed :)

Running with no problem on a macbook pro, intel core2duo, 2.4 GHz, 2G ram, and nvidia GeForce 8600M GT (256MB RAM) graphics set to the lowest. (haven't tried bumping them up yet.)
@allexxx, mac OSX has disk utility, it comes with the operating system.
seeding til' i'm at least 50G up, i recommend everyone does the same. ;)
and check the readme files all you nubs asking for a serial, honestly.

However recently it just freezes after a minute, no matter what the server, ive tried re-installing, re-patching to v1.7 and turning punkbuster off etc. I cant understand it has anyone else had this? Or even better found a solution!

I had this problem at another game. So.. I can help if u are using "Azureus" (it's torrent downloading app) First go to Azureus and right click on your downloaded game. Then Force Re-check. When its done, Azureus finds some missing pieces and downloads it. When the download is complete, it's everything ok. If u aren't using Azureus, or not seeding. U need to re-download the game :))

hey everyone, and anyone that may be able to help. I finally got my new macbook pro two days ago, base 1999 model but added the 4ghz ram. I downloaded this torrent, only took over night or so, and i was so pumped when it finished. No complaints because, well, I'm lost to begin with. I'm new to torrenting games, not music. I am not sure what to do, when I put the torrented folder after downloading, into the MAC HD, then found it and tried to click 'call of duty 4' the game, says the disc must be in the drive. I then tried to copy the file i downloaded onto the HD with Disc Utilities this time, and seems to be no different. What do I do? Do I burn the downloaded file to a DVD black disc? Do I download some software that will run it or something for me. I'm sorry to sound like such a noob, but anyone please help me out on this. Thanks.

on some programs (or games) that use the internet, a crack is normally a better method. A crack is a .dmg (or pc's - a .exe file) which is exactly like the original except it has been modified to not ask for a serial number. Also if you get a program called Little Snitch - which works like a firewall, you can deny all internet connections - so the program thinks the entered serial is correct - and it can't verify its authenticity through the internet. Personally, i would get a crack. A crack is usually applied by simply replacing the existing program (found under applications) with the crack.

For those who having install problem, your file is corrupted during download or transfer. I downloaded the file on a pc, which went well, then transfer it to Mac with a external usb hard drive and that caused the problem, the dmg file failed to mount. Then I tried with a 8gb usb flash drive format to ntfs(fat32 won't work with file larger than 4gb) and succeeded.

I used to be a MS fanboy(I know 98,2k, 2kme, xp, vista and 7 inside out), since 98 came out, then switched to xp and was with xp since the release date till about 3 months ago, when I tried windows 7 and got so excited that I thought nothing can be better.
After that I tried OS X and well, now it will take a lot of shotguns to my forehead to make me switch back to MS.
The speed, the simplicity, the usability, cpu management, the level of attention put into the development shows everywhere.
The mac blows for gaming ATM, no doubt there, however with a lot of new (big budget ones) games coming out with mac versions (WOW, NFS, COD4, FM, Red Alert 3, Warcraft 3, Spore, C&C, to come: Starcraft2, Diablo III etc etc etc), the streamline market is expanding and in a few years it will even itself out.
I used to work in the gaming industry and the inside scoop is: developing for the consoles(and the Macs) is cheaper, it is very easy to port games from xbox360 to ps3, it is relatively cheap to test them. With the PC's its a different story: the amount of hardware the game must be compatible with is ridiculous, the expenses are sky high and more and more developers moan about PC's. Developing for the Mac on the other hand is a treat, as long as it works on the base systems, it will work on all of them.
The PC will fade out as a major gaming platform eventually, certain genres will leave the PC. However FPS games, Strategies and MMORPG's are not going anywhere, the rest of the market will be shared amongst the surviving consoles and the Mac.
Now if you're a whiny little punk, who only cares about gaming, then yes, of course The Big Bad Mac sucks, go blow your dad and get him to buy you a ps3 if you want gaming.
If you do care more about work, GTD, optimizing your work environment, taking out the hassles and enjoying the brief interactions with the OS and the amazing Mac-only apps, without which I truly can not work without. Well, if you have experienced it, you know the benefits. And for those brief moments when you really need the good old windows, there is always boot camp or VMWare that allows the seamless integration of Windows inside the OS X.
Mac OS > Microsoft Windows, simply because apps running inside a virtual machine within os x run faster than they run inside a standalone windows install on the same hardware. No further arguments...

You have 2 COD4 icons right, oner for the orig game and the crack, just replace the orig. one (dont delete it, save it in another folder, you never know if you are gonna need it) for the crack one. Hope it works, or you just can put both on the game folder, to play click always on the crack COD4 icon.
To others:
There are a bunch os serials that work (for Sinlge Player only), read all comments please, or else get Serial Box.

Can someone please help me. I cannot, for the ife of me, figure out how to get single player to work. I've dragged the COD4 Folder into my app folder. I've opened the CodLiverOil folder, and dragged the Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare [k'd] into the main COD4 folder. Then, I've tried to open from the [k'd] version, tells me that it's quit unexpectedly. I've tried to open from the reg version, and it asks me for a serial and I cannot find one to work (tried over 100). I just can't get this to work. Do I need to add the [k'd] version to the COD4 folder, then erase the regular version. Or rename on of them? I am so lost, and have combed over these comment boards endlessly. WTF can't I get this to work? Please help, and thanks

For people having the serial problem,here's some help.
1. Copy the folder to your hard drive(like they ask you if you did not do it already)
2. Go download the 1.7.1 patch(if you want multiplayer) (find it on apple site or aspur site)
3. Run this patch, select your COD4 and COD4 multiplayer.

4. If you want to play singleplayer and the serial you tried did not work, there's a crack for that. GO into your downloaded crack folder and put the COD4 k'ed in the COD4 folder. The single player now works. (you run this icon, not the original one.

guys when you download the game, patch it to 1.7 first, then go to like gametracker or another site and dowload gametracker sidebar, then join a cracked server that the have listed.
o yea on the gametracker sidebar think you have to add Call of Duty 4 to the list of games you have so you go to settings then games then click add game it will bring up your finder so you have to find you cod4 multiplayer. so now when you are on gametracker.com all you do is click join and your cod 4 multiplayer will automatically start and join the cracked server. Im bad at explaining things so if this doesnt make sense just comment and ill try to help

how did you update?.. ive tried the official "boxed" and "digital" updaters but they say "No software could be found to update". When you click "Other..." to specify the files and you select the app(s) it says:
"Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare.app does not appear to be installed correctly.
The installation of Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare.app (located in /Applications/Call of Duty 4) appears to be incomplete. Reinstalling may fix this problem."
(reinstall hasn't fixed it)

ok finally got it to work, i think.
1)download the 'Digital' version's v1.7 patch
2)reinstall cod4 (or if you havent applied the crack/run cod yet it should work without reinstalling)
3) You just want to patch the multiplayer app, as u'll need the cracked version of the singleplayer to play singleplayer (unless you can find a working serial, somehow), which can't be patched..........So: In order to patch the multiplayer, run the downloaded patch, and when it can't find the files click "other.." and select ONLY the multiplayer app. ,,,,

Alright so after much browsing through the thread I have found the solution to many of miy (and probably other people's) troubles!

I got a question, I just transfered this to the school MAC. And we are going to play LAN.
What I did is to launch the Multiplayer CoD, and make a LAN server, then a console comes up and the game itself closes. When the console is up, it is not possible to launch the multiplayer again.
How can I fix this, how can we play LAN? And make a LAN server?

OKAY. I FOUND OUT HOW TO PLAY MULTIPLAYER!!!
Download the 1.7 patch, it's somewhere in these comments, it MUST BE THE DIGITAL VERSION, NOT THE BOX ONE.
Then run the patch, and select the cod4 multiplayer icon(the red star).
Go here for a key code take that key code, write it down, and put it into your cod4 multiplayer under options>(some key code option, its at the bottom)>and change it to your keygen'd code, it will more than likely say "This key is not valid", that is fine.
Go back to the cod4 multiplayer MAIN MENU, and press the (`~) key on your keyboard, then type 'connect {ipaddresshere)' WITHOUT the (') or ({}).
Some servers will work, lots won't, but the ones that DO work, make you feel great . :D Hope this helps!

TO PLAY MULTIPLAYER:
1. download cod4 1.7 patch and update multiplayer.
2. then go here and find a suitable server. copy the IP number (CMD+C).
3. in the multiplayer section, press ~, then "connect 12.345.678.90" and paste the IP number.
4. if it says PunkBuster needs to be updated, do a quick Google search to find out how to manually update from the PB website. if it says "Keycode in use", i think it means the server isn't cracked, so go back to the gaming website and try another IP number.
it is possible to find cracked servers, just keep trying!

@Wrath14 If you're using a Mac with an Intel graphics it won't work since it's not supported on this game as it says in last 4 Notices. If you're unsure which adapter you have go to ->About This Mac and under More info... find Graphics/Display and it will show you relevant information. In the case that you have Intel GMA 950 or Intel X1300 it won't work. I tried it before.

copy and ip. start the game, press the "§" key on u keybord (under escape button)
then remove the § signs it says and instead type "connect ip" (the ip shoud be the 1 u copied) then press enter button :)

I've downloaded this before, but deleted it cus it takes space, but I've played singleplayer/campaign and multiplayer, just need to download the 1.7 patch and go to a private servers page for cod4. Thats it! You can play the dedicated servers, but that will need some settings that I don't remember and which doesn't work pretty well.

This works fine on MacPro Lion 10.7.1. At the 1st start, the game quit with a black screen from the menu when i pressed new game. On the next launch a window appeared that i should run it in safe mode. I ran it from safe mode and the game works on full settings no lag.

To install just drag cod4 [k'd] to cod4 folder and then play on the k'd and enter serial. Playing multiplayer needs crack servers. bring up console using ~ and then type connect [CRACK SERVER IP] enter. crack server google them. :D

Did you follow the instructions?
First place call of duty 4 in your hard drive. Open the crack and place it in call of duty 4. Open the k'd and it will ask for serial. If not I don't know. Chances are reinstalling by deleting EVERY FILE related to Call of duty.

Ok to get multiplayer to work you DO NOT use any key code at all, first go to multiplayer settings and make sure that "enable console" is on, then search in google cod4 servers, find the server you like copy the IP address then open up the multiplayer and at the main menue hit the tilde key (the one that looks like a squigley) then you will see a console at the top, type "connect" then hit space bar once, then past the IP you copied (usually its "command v") then hit enter and you should connect.

A reminder -
In multiplayer, if you are using the same key code with somebody else who is also playing cod at the same time, it will show "Key Code in use"
Also if you find a key code nobody is using, you will need to go to "filter servers" and turn "PunkBusters" off. This only applies in the crack version.
Last advice, if you don't have a individual key code, you can still play cod multiplayer, but only in LOCAL mode. local mode meant that another player is using the same WiFi as you.

TO GET MULTIPLAYER WORKING:
Go to:
Make sure you get the DIGITAL DOWNLOAD 1.7 PATCH FOR MAC. Download an mount (open) the dmg. Run the installer, and set everything up like normal. Because this is cracked, it won't automatically find the application to update. Tell it to update THE REAL APPLICATION... NOT THE CRACKED LAUNCHER.
After it patches, you're good to go. Use the cracked launcher just as you always would. Single player will still show 1.5, but who cares? Once you switch to multiplayer it shows 1.7, and everything works fabulously...
Except that I suck at this game. =P

Running this at 60fps on my 15" Retina MacBook Pro at full 2880x1800....it is simply stunning..I wish I could post some full res screenshots in this comment to show you guys. at 2.8K you have to turn off a few settings but at 2K or 1080p you can let loose and its butter smooth. Oh I should mention my rMBP 15" is the baseline with 8GB's of RAM and the Nvidia GT 650M with 1GB of RAM. And yes >100ºC is normal...hell I get that from plenty of normal use! I've gotten to 210ºC on my old 13" unibody MacBook Pro. rMBP has dual fans + a fan on the GPU.

this works fine in single player mode, ultimately I bought the paid for version off the app store, and to be honest, not to have to go thru any drama to be able to play on line is worth $20 ( and so is the game in general ) but be warned, there are soooooooo many cheaters and hackers it pretty much ruins the online experience for people who prefer not to hack. Personally if you have to use hacks and cheats to get kills then you must suck at multiplayer mode.
