Converted from Charlie Jade 1x08 Devotion.mpg originally up'd to Demoinoid.com May 31, 2005. A couple of notes: It's the first time I've done a conversion, so I'm sorry if there's any problems. I cropped the black areas around the video. I couldn't quite figure out how to force the aspect ratio, so you may have to adjust your viewer. Using mplayer add the params '-aspect 16:9'

if you used lavc, then you can include -lavcopts autoaspect

I was using avidemux2. Didn't know about lavc specifically. Thanks. I'll give that a shot next time. I tried using mencoder and transcode, but the results were pretty bad. My fault I'm sure, but there it is.

aha, i thought you used mencoder for it, well after I had downloaded it I noticed it was xvid, so instead of -lavcopts you'd have to use -xvidencopts autoaspect
i'm certainly no pro myself at encoding, i've shied away from it several times and let others handle it, do you know of a quick mencoder line to put in aspect scaling in your rip, and perhaps add a filter to deinterlace it aswell, it works on playback with -vf pp=fd, but i'd like to have the file itself deinterlaced

I'm in the same boat as you. It would have made my life so much easier if I could have used mencoder, but it and transcode have so many damn options I have trouble find the right settings. In the end, avidemux2, with its gui was the only thing I could get any kind of reasonable output from.

Well one way to fix the aspect is
mencoder -oac copy -ovc copy -force-avi-aspect 16:9 -o newfile.xvid Charlie_Jade_108.avi
But I don't know how to get it deinterlaced :(
