Over 600 cyclists are killed in the US every year, mandatory helmets will reduce that number. More realistically, it's a tax grab for the municipal government. Buy a $10 helmet, wear it, or don't bitch when you get an $80 ticket.

Its the same for safety belts in cars, and no one finds it annoying with that. Its mandatory so it protects you. I don't see how you can complain about that. If you want to exercise your right to risk your life, go and skydive or jump off a bridge without a bungee cord.

Because it always starts with something that seems reasonable (like bike helmets) and ends with cameras monitoring us 24/7 and government approval needed for every action.
How about the government controlled thermostats that being discussed in California?
I've seen people defending those too - "But, we're in an energy crisis!" Help me mommy government!!! The founders would be ashamed of the average American's understanding of Constitutional rights, individual freedoms and personal responsibility.
