Samenvatting: For Colored girls volgt een aantal vrouwen die allemaal hun eigen problemen hebben. De één heeft problemen met haar dochters, de ander met een man die haar slaat, weer een ander met een man die vreemdgaat en zo zijn er nog een aantal karakters. Zoals het vaker deze films gaat hebben alle verhalen iets met elkaar te maken en komen uiteindelijk allemaal samen. De film is gebaseerd op een toneelstuk dat bestaat uit 20 gedichten. Perry heeft deze gedichten verwerkt in de film waardoor er een soort "spoken wordical" (in plaats van musical) ontstaat. De film kent een aantal goede performances. Zo is Whoopi Goldberg prima en weet Anika Noni Rose te overtuigen. Het is duidelijk dat niet iedereen tot de doelgroep van deze film behoort. Voor degenen die op zoek zijn naar heel veel drama.
