Razorheart. Maybe your computer is not on, or your computer is not a Windows machine, but most likely your folder settings are set to not show system files.

The host file is part of windows (not adobe) so if it doesn't show up it's because your windows software is set to hide system files.
127.0.0.1 is the address of your computer. So, when those adobe links are called, they are redirected to the adress of your computer. In clear, the computer is calling itself instead of calling adobe.
An other way of preventing your computer from calling those adobe links is to instruct your firewall. So, you can simply put those links into the blocked zone. With this method, you don't need to alter your host file.
Regarding the updates, they will not be possible if they are done from one of those blocked adobe links. We need to know which link provides the updates.

I Just realized how bad my PC is :( ahh well..

Vista ultimate 64bit - working.
NO VIRUS FOR F SAKE! dont believe me?.. just open the freakin file with notepad and you can see that the only thing it does is it blocks adobe website from checking your copy of photoshop..
Also i've been an idiot, i've put hosts file in drivers, not drivers/etc.. anyway used up all 3 serials and had to search for more.. if same thing happened to you, here are additional serials:

ok ima write DETAILED INSTRUCTIONS for thoes that are getting confused.

1. install as usual
2. when it asks you for a serial number during install do not enter one just click on 'install as trial'
3. once the trial version has installed go to this location C:/windows/system32/drivers/etc in there you will find your hosts file
4. download this pre-modified hosts file
5.once downloaded use winrar or winzip to extract the modified hosts file too you desktop
6. copy and past into C:/windows/system32/drivers/etc
7.replace the old hosts file with this one and YOUR DONE! just enter a serial for adobe and it wont call home to check the serial which means its activated forever.

This is so awesome! It worked first time. However, I do get the "enter serial number" box each time I start it. Clicking cancel runs the prog as normal. Not a biggie.
BTW I would recommend that people make a copy of the original hosts file before overwriting it - just in case you want / need to go back.
@Jeroen1302 you need to download the torrent with a torrent program. Utorrent is a good one.
Then you download this zipped torrent with Utorrent and open it with a zip program to access the folder. 7zip is a good utility.
You'll need to practice - once you got it, you'll never look back!

When I start Photoshop a widow appear there a I can provide a serial number or continue to use the trail and it says that I have know 16 days remaining on this trail. it didn't work for me - I installed 64 version of Photoshop from the official website, used your instructions..but nothing worked.
Installation wizard takes me to the last step (after typing in the serial number), where I'm supposed to log in to my adobe account. After doing it I get "Invalid serial number. Could not start your Adobe CS Live subscription".

I'm having a little bit of trouble with the programme.
Just so this is clear, I have been using a cracked Photoshop CS3 on my computer for for 2 years, without problems. I am running Windows Vista 32bit.
I followed all of the steps in the torrent in order: the program installed (trial version), I swapped the host file and plugged in the first serial in the .txt. Everything worked and installed properly.
When I opened the program and tried to open one of my .PSDs from Photoshop CS3, all that appeared was a black square. I couldn't manipulate the image at all. I also tried to open a new document, with the same result.
Has anyone else had this problem?

Mixed experience. Need a quick answer. Installed on one pc, no problem. On the second pc i did the same thing. But after i fixed the host file, and started up photoshop, it did NOT ask for a SN ???

Выбираем язык триальной версии.
Заполняем форму от фанаря.
Качаем архив и от адоба (два файла).
После закачки отключаем интернет или блокирум (постоянно ломится).

из временной файл Set-up (при установке выбираем триальную версию, не тыкайте ключи сразу!)

После установки открыть
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\

В скачаном торренте в архиве есть папка "main resource".
Внутри папки находится файл "hosts".
В ней находится файл "hosts"который нужно с заменой в папку (drivers\etc).
Можно сохранить старый "hosts"на всяк.

Открываем Photoshop Cs5.
При первом открытии запросит серийник, один из блокнота в скачанном торренте.

What I did was:
Download the trial.
Open the trial.
Don't choose the trial, but the verify thing.
Open the "README" file.
Copy/Paste the first serial into the verification form.

Everything installed and worked perfectly, but today I got an email saying my 30 day trial had started. I installed last night.
I did use the hosts file, but am wondering if it installed as a trial and has some kind of 30 day clock running? That would be bad. My business failed and I need to fall back on photography to make some money. Elements won't quite do it and there's no way I can afford a legit copy of PS right now after buying lighting equipment and stuff. If it's abruptly shut off I dont' know what I'm going to do.
Should I ignore the email or should I have a friend of mine who's a teacher buy a discounted copy for me?

I have installed the program as the instructions say, I changed the host file. when I go to enter the serial key, it checks out. then I put in my adobe ID select continue it loads for a moment and then I get a message saying I cannot complete registration right now, and to try again later.

If you are having trouble getting this to work, follow the instructions and install Photoshop, then download this torrent:

There's a bunch of crap included in that torrent, but the file you are interested in is the one called "CS5 activation DLL.exe". Just ignore the other stuff. The exe is an archive that contains two files amtlib (2).dll and amtlib.dll.
The one called amtlib (2).dll is for 64bit Photoshop and the other one is for 32bit.
Go to the folder where Photoshop is installed and rename or delete the amtlib.dll file there, then just copy the correct file from the archive over (rename amtlib (2).dll to amtlib.dll if you're on 64bit).
This worked for me at least.

The hosts file manipulates the way your browser tranlsates the URL of a website into the IP of the website.
The File creates an address book type of list, so your borwser doesnt have to request the IP address of websites from the ISP every time it trys to connect.
This Host file that is available for download here changes the way your browser follows links from google.
It is known as ' The google redirect virus' and is almost untraceable to McAfee , norton and AVG.
When you click on a link from a google search results page, it automatically redirects you to a 3rd party advertisement / spam website. This is very frustrating.

It worked 100% for me as well. I was getting problems when logging in with the account. It's all you need to do. Take the one packaged file from the torrent he linked, put it on the desktop, it will have 2 files in it, pick which one it is you need (32 bit, 64 bit). Open your file location for PSCS5 place the file in there.

Works as it should! Just add the DLL fix that is here on this torrent (same one posted by @wingfoo on page 9). All you need there is to extract the CS5 Activation DLL.exe to desktop, pick the amtlib.dll (for 32bit) and replace it to your Photoshop folder, then that's it! The amtlib(2).dll should be used for the 64bit.

I can't get it to work. I'm on Windows 7. I've tried a lot of different serial numbers. I get the checkmark, then I go to the next screen and log in, and it tells me that it can't start my subscription. It's the correct log-in and I have no Adobe products running, I even close photoshop. I'm agree with @wingfoo, but...these DLL are activated just for the cs5, but not for the extended versoin. It's work just fine, like normal version, but if You loock little bit carfully You will see it is not extended. The 3D and some other futures are missing. Can somebody offer activated DLL for the extended version please!

Hey I got it to work except for when I put in my username and password the next screen that comes up says.

Okay...so I've tried what woo said on page nine. I cut and pasted the .dll file for 64bit into the main CS5.1 folder. Win7 asked whether I had Admin rights. I clicked yes and it pasted. If you are having trouble getting this to work, follow the instructions and install Photoshop, then download this torrent:

There's a bunch of crap included in that torrent, but the file you are interested in is the one called "CS5 activation DLL.exe". Just ignore the other stuff. The exe is an archive that contains two files amtlib (2).dll and amtlib.dll.
The one called amtlib (2).dll is for 64bit Photoshop and the other one is for 32bit.
Go to the folder where Photoshop is installed and rename or delete the amtlib.dll file there, then just copy the correct file from the archive over (rename amtlib (2).dll to amtlib.dll if you're on 64bit).
This worked for me at least.

I did what wingfoo advised, but the screen that pops up when you open Photoshop (to either enter the verification code or just continue the trial) doesn't pop up anymore. (And I can't find where you can click to get it to pop up, I feel dumb lol)

Is anyone going to sort out the Adobe ID problem? You cannot install with serial only as a trial, then when you rum the programme, if you are connected to internet. no Adobe ID no run. If you are not connected to internet, will not get passed the Adobe ID page. This is the fifth Photoshop extended version I,ve tried and they all have the same problem. Running Windows 7, 64 bit. Is it just this OS?

Finally got it working but dont really know how. Idid the set up 5-6 times, did the hosts thing. replaced the DLL files and on the 6th time started the program and it didnt ask me for an adobe ID. Just keep at it!

thanks DenyGod for upload&a massive shout out to Wingfoo for directing us to the activator,i too was avin 'adobe id subscription' trouble,i installed only the 64bit photoshop on win7 entering serial in full mode instead of in trial mode,i meant to disconnect internet whilst installing but mistakenly turned off Kapersky instead,after installation i got the usual 'subscription id' error,then closed Photoshop&copied the 64bit .dll file from the activator into C/Programs/Adobe/Photoshop replacing the original .dll (this must b done as administrator or take ownership of .dll) then opened Photoshop up again&hey presto,it was then i realised i was still connected to internet&all is still fine...

OK, I think the solution is this:
For those of you having trouble with the ADOBE ID crap, you have to keep trying different cereal numbers until one of them works and you DON'T get a dialogue asking for your adobe id.

Those who are having trouble at the Adobe ID part, with the error saying:
"We are unable to start your subscription for Adobe Photoshop CS5.1 Extended subscription edition.

that's because the serial number you entered is not valid, although when you enter it, there's a green tick shown beside it.
All you have to do is try entering another serial code, until the window close immediately when you click next instead of showing the Adobe ID part.

to reiterate...
if you've used an invalid serial, a green check will show, however it will go to a screen prompting an adobe account to be created
if you've used a valid serial the window will disappear and the program will open immediately- just keep trying with serials until this happens!

Here is solution. There are two serial numbers.:
1. for CS5 extended subcription
2. For CS% extended (without subscription)
You will get error if you add "subscription" serial number.
So use this serial no. "1330-1363-1206-9398-1328-8912" and activate photoshop cs5...

Your host file needs to be original when you do installation, that may be your problem.. it asked me to put in a cd for installation when mine was already swapped.

Here is solution. There are two serial numbers.:
1. for CS5 extended subcription
2. For CS% extended (without subscription)
You will get error if you add "subscription" serial number.
So use this serial no. "1330-1363-1206-9398-1328-8912" and activate photoshop cs5...
