My versions have 5.1 audio captured from Discovery HD europe via HDD Set-top box and look much better. Super-sharp & smaller.
I don't want a 2 pass encode to then chop it up (remove commercials + overlap), stick it back together & voila a file that does not match any of the other files. I need a serious TS (x264) cutter. Then I can do a 2 pass.
You should not have used a filter it really slows encoding

384Kbps for 2 channels, really? 192 suffices plenty. 384 for 6 is a bare minimum, 448 for 6 is more usual.
