You asked what the (U) means..That means it is a United States rom. E stands for Europe. And J stands for Japan. Be careful trying to play any rom that is an E or J. Make sure your emulator has the right plugins or can run those roms. Some emulators can not.

I use P64 1.7 myself and they work fine, I also tested them in P64 1.6 and they worked the same way.
