@swift9900: The best program I've found is "Free Video Converter" totally free and easy to use. Just make sure you set the aspect ratio correctly and also that the resolution is not set too high for your DVD player or other player. My dad's normal DVD player can only accept files that are a max res of 720x??? In the "Output Format" you must set it to AVI format and then in the "Codec" tab you select DIVX codec, then it should work.

With VLC player worked perfect, with my Sony BR did not, the audio went to normal to super slow, same happened with the video after the audio slowed down. But with VLC is perfect, for this file size is a 10/10.
i deleted since i play movies on my BR not the laptop :)
