As an aside, why the fuck does everyone put 720p on non-720p movies? This is not 720p.

This is in fact 720p. It is letterboxed due to the 2.35:1 ratio, if they encoded the black bars it would in fact be 720 lines of resolution. Bars aren't encoded, viewable resolution remains the same.
