Let me tell you something, this movie, along with 'The Last Picture Show' and others, were classics, it has to be realized that this planet was really in a state of Shit at this time, the Vietnam war still raged and all was not well with anybody. This is a movie about love. The desires of love, the discoveries of love, the disappointments of love, and finally, the loosing of love. It is about memories that will live forever in the minds of those who love, even if that love is not the best, most pleasant memory.
There is a lot of guilty, pain, sorrow, a mix of emotions too heavy to be experience at such younger age by the boy, and too painful to be live by a more experience woman. The end is easy to guess.
It is not a movie about free pussy (no wonder you talk about suicide). It is not a movie about banging an older bitch.
Get your minds off the gutter, and who knows, you may even get what you are looking for, even if for the wrong reasons.
