This is a fantastic game. Very addictive, only sad part was there is no multiplayer or skirmish.
It's basically Sid Meires Colonization in Real Time and much better graphics. You basically found and Island and use its available resources to upgrade your town, trade with other players and colonize other islands. Its very fun.

I found myself disliking this game after some time. In particular i dislike the way oriental islands are implemented. You cannot trade enough of the oriental items, so u have to have an island full of muslims at all times, and as i wanted to play from perspective of middle age europe, it really kills my immersion. You dont trade, you have to have production of those things if you are to advance. Thats very stupid for a game thats marketed as "trading game". Im downloading anno 1701 now.

finally i found a fsolution foor the crashing problem
so...the game is preset to run in DX10 mode,u just have to make it run in DX9 mode like this
Navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Ubisoft\anno1404\config\engine.ini
(In Windows Vista this file is located in C:\Users\USERNAME\?.)
Create a backup of engine.ini file.
Open the engine.ini with a text editor such as Notepad.
Search for the tag .
You will find the line

1. Right Click the file : rzr-a144 and click the option - Add to"rzr-a144.rar" - OBS: i did this with winRar.
2. Double Click it and extract.

well i dont know what problems people have here as i made it work perfectly. (like always)
at least i do it like this:
1. use iZarc to extract the files. (if theres no file with the extract logo choose one of the part files, i usually choose #1 and right click "extract to", and its fine.)
2. Use an Iso program like Daemon tools on the .ISO file to open it and install the game.
3. Open the disc from "computer" or "My Computer" (or whatnot) open the Razor 1911 file copy crack into Anno folder and your set to go.
Damn i think i should save an okay explanation for this in a txt file or something. to many people out there who cant sort these things out themselves...

I have xp not vista cause it sux but I think things work the same on it as well.
OK. STEP BY STEP
1. Right click file 001 and choose OPEN WITH.
2. A list comes up of all kinds of programs you have. Choose WinRAR and hit ok.
3. Another window will open showing you what will be extracted.
4. Top leftish side there is a picture of a file thing that under it says (Extract To).
5. Left click that and another window pops up asking where to put the file.
6. At this point you can make a file for it somewhere or just put it in the same file as the download.
You now have the iso. Mount it with daemon tools and install. Do not Register the game when the window pops up. Just close it.
THE CRACK
when the image is mounted. go to the mounted image in (my computer) where c drive / floppy drive is and u will see the virtual Daemon tools drive with the game mounted. Right click it and left click (explore). the Razor 911 folder has the crack. Yes, the picture of the ship on water. copy and put it in the location of the game install. example : C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Related Designs\ANNO 1404. say yes to (replace file). I have not done this yet but there may b a prob with the crack but another Razor 911 crack is available.

saying u did everything correct doesnt mean anything. what did you do correctly? also, do u have Vista or XP?
did you look for the crack? if yes, where did you find it? after u found it did you copy paste the crack into the installation directory? if yes, did you get the message this file already exists in this location? if so, did you click on move and replace?

I solved the problem by using the Anno4.exe from
C:\Where you unpacked the ISO\Anno 1404\Razor1911
(NOT C:\Where you unpacked the ISO\Anno 1404\Exe)
and put it in the
C:\Program files\Ubisoft\Related Designs\ANNO 1404

One thing i will say about this game is that to play on the highest graphic settings you need a pretty good spec.
However, on medium settings there isnt a massive graphical difference and it plays pretty well on my setup (Nvidia 8600GT + 2GB RAM etc etc).
The gameplay its self on the other hand! Well...
If you find you are more of an Age of Empires fan then you may find this game a little boring, as there is far more focus on building up your resources to support the residents of your city(s), etc, etc, than there is building a shed load of troops and going to smash your enemy.
I however, find that the gameplay is decently interesting enough to keep you there a few hours at a time (Some of the campaign missions take foooooooooking ages!) if you have the patience.
If your idea of gaming is fast paced, in your face and devestating your opponent, then dont download this game. You would be wasting time!

My only problem is some 'Failure To Initialize DirectX' error that occurs when trying to load the game up.

It finally unpacked everything, the Autorun file runs just fine and is installing the game right now. It is not wrong to copy the whole CD as it is onto your computer, just a bit tedious as image files are so much easier to manage.

Anyone else totally unable to extract/install this? If I try to extract the files with 7-Zip it seems to stall indefinitely; I can mount the ISO and see setup and Autorun but get an error if I try to run either. Downloaded it twice (once was the other razor1911) and both times the same thing.

I have xp not vista cause it sux but I think things work the same on it as well.
OK. STEP BY STEP
1. Right click file 001 and choose OPEN WITH.
2. A list comes up of all kinds of programs you have. Choose WinRAR and hit ok.
3. Another window will open showing you what will be extracted.
4. Top leftish side there is a picture of a file thing that under it says (Extract To).
5. Left click that and another window pops up asking where to put the file.
6. At this point you can make a file for it somewhere or just put it in the same file as the download.
You now have the iso. Mount it with daemon tools and install. Do not Register the game when the window pops up. Just close it.
THE CRACK
when the image is mounted. go to the mounted image in (my computer) where c drive / floppy drive is and u will see the virtual Daemon tools drive with the game mounted. Right click it and left click (explore). the Razor 911 folder has the crack. Yes, the picture of the ship on water. copy and put it in the location of the game install. example : C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Related Designs\ANNO 1404. say yes to (replace file). I have not done this yet but there may b a prob with the crack but another Razor 911 crack is available.

poppa911-just associate the file extension .001 with winrar [or whatever you use] and then just treat it like a standard rar file, winrar will reassemble the part files [.001 .002 etc.] into whatever its meant to be and then rock out with your cock out cause this game is awesome!

Anybody having the problem with some sections of the ground raised up? Squares of the ground are raised, with like a black shadow underneath? Game is still playable but some resources (like rock) are hidden under raised parts in some places. Seems to be happening mostly along shores. Might be a hardware issue seeing as I'm borderline.

Doest work after install, got problems with install and crack. couldnt get the game started. probably a issue with audio drivers from Realtek. So first update your audo drivers if you have Realtek HD-audio.

If you have the problem that the extracted and mounted autorun will give you the error "autorun.ini". And the setup.exe wont start, just install the newest version of 7zip or winzip. Worked for me!

For those who do not know how to extract: USE WINRAR. Literally open it up ( the application Winrar) go to your directory where you downloaded the game,............. select the first one of those weird .001 files....select the .001 and press extract...... it will extract all the same files into a single folder in that same directory as a zip then open that up and BAM you have all the files everyone is talking about. Then follow p4sion's instructions that he left for you.....nstall Notes
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1. Extract RARs
2. Mount or burn image
3. Install
4. Copy the cracked Anno4.exe to your installation dir overwriting the
existing one (you may also delete the files dvm.dll & TagesClient.* now
to save some 50MB of wasted diskspace)
5. Run the game using Anno4.exe (update your gu.exe shortcuts accordingly)
to avoid update problems
6. Have fun!

The game crashes because some how the game doesnt install properly its not RAZOR's problem its UBISOFT's problem
it crashes because the file name "Engine.ini" is missing in "C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Ubisoft\Anno1404\config" (im not sure where it is on Vista this is for XP) MAKE SURE THAT YOU TURN OFF ALL UR ANTIVIRUS OR FILEWALL!!
one of the solution is to click CANCEL when it ask if you "want to adjust the game to your graphic card" then the file sould be there
THEN you open the file with notpad, find the line "0" if yours is "0" change it to"9" (for XP, only change it to "9" or it will not work but for vista "9" or "10") like this "9"

While attempting to ignore the assholes above me... Extract any .rar and it'll extract them all into one .iso. Delete everything else if you need the disc space. Use Alcohol to mount the ISO and install it.
Follow the freaking directions in the info about the torrent.
Also be aware, this isn't Dawn of Discovery (US) it's Anno 1404. Yes, it's the same game. BUT, 1404 was a Europe release, with the English language with it, for obvious reasons. But it is the Euro release. SO make sure if you patch+crack it you get the 1404 not DoD stuff.
If you speak German, you're in luck, they even have great editing tools available from ubisoft.

For anyone having trouble extracting with winrar Just Right click and open "rzr-a144.001". It then comes up with a message saying windows cant open this file, then click "Select a program from a list of installed programs" and click ok,. Then it comes up with the "Open With" Click browse near the bottem right and navigate to your winrar usually found in your C://Programs files, then select the Winrar.exe files, then this should change the rzr.144.001 to be recognise by Winrar then just right click and extract the Iso file

I have a problem. I dowloaded this torrent and for the first time ever its not working for me. I've read all the comments on this and the problem is not being adressed. After i mount the .iso with Deamon. Autorun and click on "Install" my vista ( 64 bit) asks for permission which i grant, loads for a few seconds and then .. Nothing. I've tried running setup.exe as Administrator etc. I even tried a different torrent, can somebody help me? I really don't wanna miss this game.

@Orbiter the program is fine! I just barely downloaded it and installed it fine on win 7 x64. I did have troubles extracting but I figured it out on my own, Eztiger suggested a similar solution to mine. You might have a corrupt sector just re-download the whole thing.
@zic678 seeds are fine! your internet sucks quit downloading porn, I was able to get this game in like 6 hours. Maybe your being cheap and your upload ratio is too low.
@lokemartinzon look in the C:\ProgramFiles(x86) folder cuz this is a 32 bit game and thats where all 32 big programs install to.
@Benino Daemon doesn't work with 64 bit win 7 or vista! I don't think it works with anything since XP. Get Alcohol 120 and install the AutoLoader program (it has virtual drives and works exactly like daemon) Torrent Here:

The mouse cursor is not in the proper location in correlation to the cursor on the game! it's a few inches to the top left of the actual cursor anyone have this problem? Super annoying!
I tried changing resolutions and nothing has worked. I can't physically move the mouse to the bottom right hand of the screen! I'm gonna look around for a patch wish me luck!

You have to select the third file in the folder called "rzr-a144.001", the right click on it and press "open with", then select "WinRAR" option, from the list.

I had some trouble installing Anno 1404 & the addon, Venice, so I decided to write up easy to follow instructions! This is how I installed it, so if this doesn't work for you, don't blame me! Thanks to Razor1911, thenoobish, everyone who seeds, & most of all, Ubisoft! If you like this game, you should buy it to support them!
Part 1 - Installing the game
1) Download Anno 1404
2) Open the folder
3) Right click the very first file in the folder ('rzr-144a', it's a 001 file) & open it with WinRAR (or whatever program you have)
4) Select 'extract to' & pay attention to what folder you're extracting to!
5) Open that folder, & you'll see an ISO file
6) Open that file using VirtualCloneDrive, or another suitable mounting program
7) Run that drive, as you would a normal CD or DVD & install the game
Part 2 - Cracking the game
1) Download the crack
2) Open the folder
3) Open the folder 'Razor1911'
4) Copy the 'Anno4' EXE to your Anno 1404 main folder (if you installed it in the default location, it'll be in Program Files > Ubisoft > Related Designs > ANNO 1404), overwriting the original EXE
5) Click on this new EXE to play the game! (Or, continue to install the addon Venice)
Part 3 - Installing Venice
1) Download the addon
2) Open the folder
3) Select all the WinRAR files & right-click & select 'Extract Here'
4) This will create another ISO file, which you run with VirtualCloneDrive, or whatever
5) Run that drive, as you would a normal CD or DVD & install the game
6) It will patch Anno 1404 before installing, so don't worry if it takes a while to bring up the actual installation process
7) Go to your Anno 1404 main folder (if you installed it in the default location, it'll be in Program Files > Ubisoft > Related Designs > ANNO 1404) again, & click 'addon.exe'
8) Select 'Manual'
9) Copy the 'Hardware ID'
10) Go to My Computer, right-click the mounted ISO image & select 'Explore'
11) Open the 'Crack' folder, run the 'keygen.exe'
12) Paste your Hardware ID into the box & click 'Generate'
13) Copy the Activation Key in the Activator & click next
14) The game will launch & you're ready to play!

My first problem was that the cursor was invisible when the game is in full screen mode, found out the problem is because I use the Magnifier program in windows 7 to magnify the screen to read text since my primary monitor is a 46" HDTV and I view it from about 14 feet away. Solution: Close the magnifier program before running a full screen program or game.
Second problem: Mouse pointer is not in the physical location of the mouse cursor. This was caused because I used the feature in Windows 7 that allows you to magnify all text and programs to make them easier to read, Mine was set to 150% of default size. Solution: Switch back to 100%, it will force you to log out of windows, log back in, start the game and all should work fine.
@Wopatoolie I recently installed the latest version of Daemon Tools and the program specifically said it wasn't compatible with windows vista/7 even when I tried to open it with the "run as administrator" option. I'm not sure about the lite version but seems like you were successful so I'll take your word for it. I have found Alcohol 120 to be more useful anyways, it allows you to create images, burn images, and run images through virtual drives...and i'm pretty sure it uses less system resources so I highly recommend it.

For those with problems unraring it all, I tried making a simple guide from what I saw earlier comments had said and what worked for me.
1. After having downloaded, you see a lot of files named rzr-a144.0xx etc etc.
2. Find the rzr-a144.001 (to me it was the first on the list)
3. Right click it and choose "open with" or something alike. Choose Winrar.
4. Now the winrar window opens, and you should see only 1 file (exept the ...folder that takes you up one level)
5. Right click the rzr-a144.iso file and choose "Exctract to specified folder" find a neat place to put it, somewhere you remember.
6. Run DamonTools Lite or something similar, and go to the place you extracted the ISO to.
From there on it's the normal way I suppose.
There might be easier ways to do this, but this is the way I did it and it has worked for me.

@azile Your error was in not blocking the game from accessing the internet via your firewall, sandboxie or other method. Sometimes it is sufficient to just block the main exe, but other times it is necessary to block other components. It depends on the individual programming of each game. As i haven't yet utilized this torrent, I can't say for sure which.
SOLUTION: Uninstall game. Run CCleaner or other registry cleaner (Restart after uninstall, run cleaner until result stop appearing)
Reinstall game and apply necessary restrictions in firewall (it is strongly recommended to install all games with Ethernet cable unplugged/disabled) Also recommend you not keep save games. While it is uncommon for a developer to use save games to save information like banned serials/illegitimate installs it is not unheard of.
Thank you p4sion. It is refreshing to read the clear and concise directions you have in the description here. That section is woefully under-utilized by most. Also thank you for including the trainer. Though I don't plan to use it, it's always nice to have extra resources. Thanks again.

I'm having some trouble at mounting this.
I extract the files and i get another file that i can extract. In this file is the "real" iso i think. Problem is i can't extract it. When i start "extract to" it says there's a problem, as it needs number 00 file or something? This doesn't work with 7-zip or winrar..
Someone please help? I can't seem to make this work, though it's not my first time installing a downloaded game.

For some reason these archive files dont register as being winrar archives. Open winrar from your start menu. click file -> open archive. now browse to the folder containing the archive files. *.r01, *.r02, etc. tell the "open" dialog box to show all files. you should see all of the archive files. Select the first one and you should be good to go. mount the iso that is extracted and install normally. Drop another message if you are still having problems

everything works normal for me but i have the same problem as Dark_Lunacy where as the chapel cost only 12 wood and i cant build it untill i have 24 wood. I will still have 12 wood left. This happens to every building in the game.

Worked fine for me on Windows 7 x86. Use the .exe file in Razor1911 folder, not the one in the EXE folder. Otherwise it will ask for a CD key. At least it did for me. I had to open the .001 file in winRAR, this file extension is not associated by default. Great game. Plan to buy now that I've tried a full version of it.

for all the people having troubles with finding the ISO: go to program files and open WINrar, then navigate to the downloaded anno folder. double-click the first file and u will see the ISO. extract this to the place u want it and then mount it.
