i only downloaded the 3h miniseries, its ripped from tv and has artifacts, but this is a 720p file and i was dissapointed with the quality if like me you want a good copy id wait untill someone rippes them from hd disk, i believe that season 1 is already out on hd disk.

I'm really confused here. In the info box, it says the miniseries is 2,048Mb, but on my disk it balloons to over 8GB. Does this have something to do with it being an .mkv file? If I understand correctly, the .mkv is a container, so does it have more files in it that I don't know about?

Those who are baffled by how badly your older computer or card play these, don't be baffled. This is not only 720p, but some extreme idiot of the worst and most pathetic sort, thought it would be a good idea to have these files play at DOUBLE the normal framerate. Why? That is the question. Was this how they were released? Or did some truly and exceptionally retarded dick smoker think that 720p just wasn't good enough for his fat ass and decided to double the framerate? We may never know.
But what we do know, is unless you have a fairly current comp and card, these files will never play smoothly. I remember these exact same 720p files from when I first downloaded the series about 4 or 5 years ago. And my comp then could barely play 10 seconds of it before it started to stutter and pixelate.
If anyone knows why they ripped/encoded/whatever these files in this way, that would be interesting to know. Especially because it appears, but I'm no expert, that the double framerate was not native to the original files. Usually, when the original files ARE already at 60fps, you can clearly and obviously see it. These Battlestar Galactica episodes don't have that "look" at all. It's like they up-scaled (?) the fps from 24 or 30fps original files. Least, it sure looks that way.
So in essence, all the difficulty of playing a 60fps high bitrate file, but not all of the quality. Seems dumber then dumb.
If you have a newer computer, none of this makes any difference.
