Description:

This is a 64bit, Mepis Linux based, Fluxbox only live CD remaster. Tweaked by http://mepislovers.org forum member, NoobJason. I'm just doing this for a fun project but I decided to share. All feedback/bug reports/suggestions welcome. I'm here to learn. It's my first working remaster so this should be !!USED FOR TESTING/EXPERIMENTAL USE ONLY!! Login as 'demo' Password 'demo' Root password 'root' --for SHUTDOWN/REBOOT, installation and admin tools Programs installed --------------------------------------------------------------------- Fluxbox-windows manager SLiM-Login Manager Catfish-file search utility Rox Filer-light weight file browser Nautilus-heavy weight file browser, great for auto mounting Kpackage-package manager, great for installing .deb packages downloaded from net Synaptic-package manager, general purpose with stock Mepis repos activated. Others listed. Azureus-Sweet bittorrent program Ark-file compression utitlity, like for zip files Amarok-heavy weight audio media thingy, internet radio, library, CD's, whatever...like iTunes for Linux XMMS-super sweet, lightweight, attractive audio player VLC-media player, great for video files of all types Brasero-disc burning utility Kmix-sound mixer, docks to taskbar on startup Alsa tools/mixer- sound mixer/configurtion tool Gimp-full featured image editor Abiword-middle weight (?), word processer Geany-text editor, aimed at programmers and maybe web page builders Leafpad-light weight, simple, text editor Kcalc-sweet little calculator HPlip-printer setup tools/printer utilities for HP printers. Konsole-full featured terminal-I like it for it's easy to configure infinite history and copy/paste abilities Wterm-light weight terminal-I like cus' it look great and it's good enough for day to day Conky-hightly configurable, light weight performance monitor (left hand corner, C1=core one, C2=core two, RM=ram, SP=swap, RT=root space aka space left on installed partition) Xkill-once engaged, the mouse cursor changes into an assassin...the next window you click it dead! Great for stopping run away programs. Keep-back-up/restore utility (have not tested yet) Gparted-patitioning tool Mepis assistants-Warrens tools for configuring Mepis (Network, System, User and Xconfig) libdvdcss2 files-installed so you can play DVD's, right out of the box. May be illegal in your country!! Xorg files-Updated with the Lenny repo. This will allow you to boot on more machines than the current release of Mepis. AntiX also has this feature. Go Antix! *Only 'slim', 'catfish' and 'xorg' files are from Lenny. Everything else is from the regular Mepis repos. Known issues --------------------------------------------------------------------------- -Using the "Restart" Fluxbox button in the menu seems to cause excessive CPU usage. I have not found the cause yet. -Even after many attempts at editing the sudoers file (with the 'visudo' command), I was unable to put a "Shutdown" & "Reboot" in the menu without giving a password. Sorry for the inconvienience. If you can fix it, let me know how you did it!! -I recommend a 'update all' with Synaptic upon installation. Seems to make flash work. Enjoy! P.S. Thanks Anticapitalista!
