Description:
Metallica - Death Magnetic
Remastered by eetfunk (from Guitar Hero 3 FLAC files)
-----------------------------------------------------
Death Magnetic is easily Metallica's greatest album in almost 2 decades.
DON'T STEAL IT, BUY IT.
After almost 10 years out of the audio engineering business, I thought it was
time for a comeback when I heard the original version of Death Magnetic. The
mastering is a disaster and there was no way I was going to listen to all this
digital clipping for the next 20 years.
I'm releasing my work for those who bought the album and want a better-sounding
version. DON'T USE MY WORK IF YOU HAVEN'T BOUGHT THE ALBUM. I mean it.
What I've done:
- I took the GH3 FLACs a great soul posted on a popular bittorrent site;
- I applied many effects (gently) including EQ, multi-band compression,
limiter and harmonic exciter;
- I encoded the result to FLAC (lossless) and to MP3 (LAME 320kbps);
While I don't pretend this version of the album is perfect, I think it's a
major step forward. There are a few minor imperfections in the GH3 source,
which most of you won't notice. It took me roughly 2 weeks (on and off) and
many listening sessions in different environments to obtain this result. This
is mainly due to the fact that I don't have proper proaudio equipment anymore.
I hope you like it. See you on tour!

Oh right, so these are 48khz? Haven't got around to downloading it yet, halfway there nowspikemonkey (2008-10-07)
Nevermind that question, I just finished downloading... (44.1khz for anyone that wants to know)I'm listening on my laptop, which has shit speakers, so I truly cannot judge it just yet :D but I will later :)

i made them CD-ready at 44.1spikemonkey (2008-10-08)
I've only had one listen on decent speakers and I think you've done a very good job eetfunk, I mean it's a vast improvement over the retail and quite a bit more polished than the original rip....of course I've only listen twice overall so I may bitch later :Peetfunk (2008-10-08)
Cool! I still have the retail version on my ipod and i can't stand it anymore. I need to update it with my remaster.spikemonkey (2008-10-08)
Hehe, yeah I haven't had the retail copy on my ipod for quite some time....literally loaded it on, listened to it on the bus, got home and deleted it.I really like your master, I have my complaints but these are down to the limitations with which you had to work and not the mix itself...now if only we could mix 9+10 together, but that's not possible without it sounding jarred.
