Mickey Rourke's comeback performance in The Wrestler was nothing short of awesome, especially given the skill level required for playing that particular part, versus Sean Penn playing Milk. I am a 50 year resident of SF so I knew Milk, so Rourkem should have beatem all hands down.
Rourke did get BAFTA and Golden Globe though,leaving room for the political hotbed of Californias anti gay marriage proposition on the ballot that won and now was struck down in Fed Court allowed for the Academy to weigh in on the issue by giving the Oscar nod to Penn.
There is nothing more dishonorable than giving out an award for socio-political reasons when the award is supposed to recognize performance based merit for artistic expression. sad!
