As Danaur pointed out, the file you're referring to is not "better" because this one is actually HD (picture size is 720p). The EZTV version is ripped from an HD source, but has been converted down to Standard Definition (picture size is no better than 480i or 480p). It is smaller in size, so it will be quicker to download, but the picture quality is only half as nice as this one is.
HDTV rips are encoded with the xvid codec and put in an avi container. They are generally less of a hassle to play on your PC or a standalone DVD player because the format has been used for a number of years now.
Real HD files are usually encoded with the h264 codec and put in an mkv container. Its use is not nearly as widespread yet as avi files, but it is getting more popular every day. To play these files, find and install the CCC pack. As long as your pc is somewhat decent, you should be able to play 720p mkv files on it with no problem.
Options for playing them on other devices are pretty limited at the moment, but if you're just watching on your pc, 720p files are well worth the extra download times.
