The four characters are: Roland the Soldier, Mordecai the Hunter, Lilith the Siren, and Brick (a Berserker) "as himself". From then on, players take on quests assigned through non characters or from bounty boards, each typically rewarding the player with experience points, money, and sometimes a reward item. Players earn experience by killing foes and completing in-game challenges (such as getting a certain number of kills using a specific type of weapon). As they gain levels from experience growth, players can then allocate skill points into a skill tree that features three distinct specializations of the base character; for example, Mordecai can become specialized in sniping,gunslinging with revolvers, or using his pet Bloodwing to assist in kills and health boosting. Players can distribute points among any of the specializations, and can also spend a small amount of in-game money to redistribute their skill points. Players start the game with the ability to use two weapons, but can later gain up to four weapon slots, as well as slots for an energy shield, a grenade modification, and a class modification. Items collected but not used can be sold back at vendors for money that then can be used to buy better items. One of the key features of Borderlands is the randomly-generated weapons and items created either as dropped by enemies, found in storage chests about the game, sold at vendors in the game, or as quest reward items. The game uses a "Procedural Content Creation System" to create these weapons and items, which can alter their firepower, rate of fire, and accuracy, add in elemental effects such as a chance to set foes on fire, and at rare times other special bonuses such as regenerating the player's ammo. A color-coded scale is used to indicate the rarity of the weapon or item. It is estimated that the random system can generate over 17 million variations of weapons BORDERLANDS Borderlands is set on the planet of Pandora. Lured by its apparent vast deposits of minerals, several colonization ships sponsored by the Dahl Corporation (one of several diversified mega-corporations that appear to control and govern entire planets) journey to the planet and build settlements there. The mining operations are cost-effectively manned by large amounts of convict labor brought to the planet by Dahl. Prior to the events of the game, one of the other mega-corporations, known as the Atlas Corporation, had found an ancient vault on a nearby planet known as Prometheus, filled with alien technology that allowed them to make leaps and bounds in starship and weaponry technology, and overtake their competitors. The presence of similar alien ruins scattered across Pandora spurs the Dahl Corporation to undertake an extensive search for a possible vault on Pandora, headed by a respected xeno-archeologist by the name of Tannis. However, the Dahl-sponsored search for a vault on Pandora turns out to be fruitless, and the massive industrial mining operations soon deplete the bulk of the mineral deposits. Furthermore, the coming of the planet's summer unleashes hordes of dangerous alien wildlife coming out of hibernation. Those who are rich and important enough to do so leave the planet, leaving the rest of the population to scavenge for their living in isolated settlements, seeking out a living in the barren wastelands and industrial trash heaps across the planet. To make matters worse, the Dahl Corporation simply opened the gates of the prison labor camps during their departure, and gangs of bandits terrorize the populace. Despite the lack of evidence of its existence, legends persist of "The Vault" – a supposed treasure trove of alien artifacts, technology, and of immeasurable wealth – but it is rumored that any who had discovered it were wiped out by a protective force, leaving few clues as to its location or purpose while a myth was born of the marvelous treasures within. THE ZOMBIE ISLAND OF DR. NED The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned begins with an introduction from Marcus Kincaid in the form of a story being told to a small child. The child interrupts him with questions, and drawings, as he tries to recite this tale. It can be speculated that Marcus is telling the story to the same person as in the introduction of Borderlands, but the child remained quiet in that earlier introduction. Brave players who seek zombie carnage will be tasked with keeping the remaining workers of Jakobs Cove alive. Dr. Ned (who is totally not Dr. Zed in disguise) does his job a little too well, creating zombies and other abominations that now run rampant in this region. Players will have to work alongside Dr. Ned as they embark on a quest to cure the inhabitants of Jakobs Cove in this full-fledged expansion filled with new enemies, new quests and rare loot drops. MAD MOXXI'S UNDERDROME RIOT Mad Moxxi is a thrill-seeking woman in search of a new husband. Having gone through three husbands already, her search has led her to becoming the Ring Master/Hostess and Commentator of the Underdome. She considers the Underdome and the excitement of the competition like matrimony and plans to stay only as long as the thrill lasts. Gameplay includes three new Riot Mode arenas where players will fight AI-controlled enemies (PvE) in single player or multiplayer. The add-on starts with a mission titled "Prove Yourself." in which players complete all three arenas. THE SECRET ARMY OF GENERAL KNOXX The Secret Armory of General Knoxx was unofficially announced on January 21, 2010 via the official Gearbox forums, posted by Gearbox level designer Jason Reiss saying the pack will increase the level cap to level 61 , and is "the biggest DLC we have made". A tweet by Gearbox creative director Mike Neumann on January 21, 2010 said the pack would also include "more Scooter", who is a character in the game. This was followed by an official announcement from Gearbox via Gearboxity on January 29, 2010, confirming the release, level cap increase, brand new weapons, and "brutal, never-before-seen enemies in a huge new environment complete with tons of brand new missions" according to Gearbox, developer of the game. Dudes that's the best borderlands download i found, good for n00bs since it's all cracked and ready, plays online, all dlc's, but it still need some extra seeding it was way better about a month ago!
btw i'm dowloading it again because i somehow fucked up my original borderlands(mod attempts, FAIL's)

Question and or if anyone else has an answer.. Does the game play into the other chapters indicated. When I first started there were 3 windows with regards to downloadable content. I believe these were for the additional chapters and or play areas. Can they be directly accessed, or are they essentially expansion packs.

It even creates the documents folder the first time you play it(for saves and such)

Great Upload! it's a RAR file and all you have to do is extract and go into the directory:
"Borderlands(DIRECT PLAY with all 4
DLC's)\Borderlands(DIRECT PLAY with all 4 DLC's)\Borderlands(DIRECT PLAY with all 4 DLC's)\Binaries\Borderlands.exe"
and yes, all online works perfectly. just make sure you have a good 30-and hour for the complete extraction. (took me about 26)

dwatson are you trying to start the game from within the 'rar',because that would take several minutes to extract the .exe for it to start???
Otherwise if you unpack the whole thing into a folder it works instantly upon clicking the borderlands.exe.
Inside the rar is the 'DIRECTX" folder and a 'PHYSX" folder,run the setup.exe in both two folders before playing and you will have no missing files.
The multiplayer works perfectly.
It's already updated to the latest version,nothing needs to be added to this,or altered.
It does take about 20min or so, to unpack(it's a pretty big game).
If these simple things are done,it works perfectly on xp,vista and win7

if you have the (physxcudart_20.dll) ERROR its because you probably dont have a nvidia videocard. so its not automatically installed
just download this even if your using a ati videocard

install physx from nvidia and then play :)

After installing and following the latest tips everything seemed to look like it was going to work correctly. The Borderlands logo will come up but windows will close it saying that the Data Execution Program closed it. I tried to change the DEP settings to allow it to execute date but it says the file must have data execution protection on. Any help?

hi, i get a weird glitch in-game
every time i go through a cutscene (like when you face 9 toes, it shows a picture of him and says something like he has 3 balls or w/e, thats what i remember from ps3 copy) the screen just flashes weird rasta colors like red green and yellow. same with when the girl talks to you in the top right corner, she doesnt pop up anymore just flashing colors.
also, every time i play multiplayer, me and my friends can only play a little bit before we get disconnected from gamespy and can't reconnect after. anybody else have this problem? we can still play but not voice chat or text chat

That sounds like a video card problem, man. Make sure your drivers are all up to date etc.
If not it's possible that it could be giving out.
As for the online play... I think that's on Gamespy's end. Every game I've joined has been horribly laggy to the point where I just leave due to delay with aiming/shooting and everything else. I'd say it could be me but... my internet is more than capable of a stable connection.

- I was having the same problem
-To fix it go to the Borderlands folder and then go into the folder named "DirectX" look for "DXSetup" in that folder and install
-Then go back into the Borderlands folder and go into a folder named "PhysX" inside there is a setup called "Physx_9....." run that
-Borderlands should run perfectly now :D

Great Upload! Easy Install and play.
I started playing with Razor1911 torrent and beat it then switched to this borderlands.
My favorite shotgun from orginal won't load onto this Borderlands version. After modding weapons with an editor i found that the weapon part causing the weapon to disapear was Barrel.barrel3_Carnage under shotguns. Makes the gun description say "Holy crap! It shoots rockets!" if gun has this part. Anyone else experiencing this? Any workaround or help would be much appreciated!

Great Easy Install no problems.
Had Razor1911 Borderlands Torrent installed already, but wanted to play DLCs. I can still play my old character save games.
Only problem is that my favorite shotgun goes missing when loading my save. Upon charactor editing and investigating, this installation won't accept combatshotgun part "Barrel.barrel3_Carnage" with item description "Holy Crap this thing shoots rockets".
Anyone else experiencing this or have a workaround? Thanks

OK guys,their are apparently a few possible probs(but not with the game).
The first thing to do is get your video drivers updated to the latest(very important)
The DIRECTX and PHYSX must be installed,or you get the D9X... or PHX.....error(they are included in the download as self-titled folders)or get them from MS and NVIDIA's websites.
Extract ALL folders from the RAR archive(DO NOT TRY TO RUN THE GAME FROM INSIDE THE RAR ARCHIVE).
Once the files have been extracted and updates done,open the BINARIES FOLDER and run BORDERLANDS.EXE.
The game should run perfectly,if not there are user issues...
Also,DO NOT mess with any DLC folders you may see...They are already installed and tested 100%(played thru complete)
The online feature works fine.
If there are any video probs,,,try dropping the resolution.
Do Not Run Any Other Programs While Extracting(very important).
This works on XP,Vista and 7(MAKE SURE TO HAVE TE LATEST UPDATES AND SERVICE PACKS)
The game is also the latest version made,so no need to try and update(version 1.4)

To fix problems with content failing to extract and or content that shows up corrupted and also to solve the protection error do the following;
1. Download 7zip for your appropriate version of Windows. http://www.7-zip.org/download.html
2. delete the previous extracted files. ex: c:\program files (X86)\bitlord\downloads\borderlands.. etc.\borderlands etc.. (DO NOT DELETE THE files you downloaded via your torrent program)
3. unzip the zipped content using 7zip.. (Do not use any other program, including winrar!)
4. when it finishes unzipping (you should have no errors), install the physx update and the direct x update via their folders.
5. Now you can run borderlands.exe (application file) in the binary folder.
I spent too much time with this to only realize that it's 7zips fault. So, you should be good. Enjoy the game! :)

I have tried reformatting and reinstalling windows, installing direct x, physx, microsoft visual C++ 2010, .net framework 4, i have all the latest drivers and windows updates, i even used Dependency Walker to see which .dll files i needed and downloaded them all individually...

Downloaded a while ago, but I just want to say that the game works great and is big fun. But if it gives errors, check if you have the DirectX which is required and FSX. Just download if you want a good game people. And another big plus: it runs good on older machines such as mine (P4 2,8Ghz, 2Gb RAM, GT220).

1xmen you don't need to download the dlc's because they're in those travels towers to select the maps. And i suggest to play this game with a nice pc or you gonna get trouble. i cant manage to get this game to work right. when i run it the opening videos stay black while the audio plays till the cage the elephant intro starts which runs just fine i get past that and the game itself runs at 2 frames a second.. im running an amd phenom 2 X6 2.9ghz cpu 16 gb or ram nvidia gtx 550 ti video card.. my pc should be able to hande 10 instances of this game

NVM I FOUND THE SOLUTION FOR SOUND THROUGH HEADPHONES!
Go to Borderlands folderEngineConfig and open up BaseEngine.ini
Look for the line...
bHasVoiceEnabled=true
...and change it to FALSE.
Save the file, reset the game and the sound should now run through headphones!

Works great, no viruses. Tho the instructions were bad as this is not extract and play - you still need to install few minor things (and find a missing DLL).
You need to install DirectX and PhysX included in this torrent before starting to play. If you already have the latest PhysX installed, then you need to separately download physxcudart_20.dll and place it into System32 dir, since that essential file, somewhy required only by Borderlands, isn't included in latest PhysX anymore.

I very rarely write comments on torrents.
I just wanted to let anyone who reads this know that this torrent is amazing. Usually I'm a bit weary of "direct play" game torrents, as I find mounting an image usually goes smoother, but wow, this torrent is the most convenient I've ever downloaded. Simply download, extract, and run. All 4 dlc's pre-loaded, no cracks, literally just double click and you're into the game.
As for the game itself, I was worried since it looked so terrible, but once I changed the resolution from like 620x480 or something to 1920x1080, the game looked (and played) great. Highly recommended, and thanks for the upload.

UPDATE: Just move the dlc folder thats in the crooked pc folder which is in the willow games folder. The dlc setup folders thats in the binaries folder can stay. Maybe they actually need to be setup? Now you can all thank me later for finding this out :)

Works great... Except for Dialogue, and cut scenes.
The beginning story, the "Guardian Angel" girl that guides you, and cut scene and lots of other dialogue, is really choppy and and terrible. Any help with this? It runs GREAT no install for anything (unless you dont have physx or DirectX) I just want to go through the game without my dialogue skipping like a broken record.

There are plenty of seeders, so IDK what everyone is talking about. I downloaded it at 2.8-3.2mb's the entire time.
Make sure you are tweaking your torrent program. I personally use Tixati. It has a great firewall function, but you must manually add parameters.
Also, having a good internet connection always helps!

Game works absolutly fine, played through most of the DLCs. I just cannot get the online to work. I use my gamespy/ign ID and pass but it just instant fails. I tried ctrl+f'ing all the comment pages but dont see anyone else with multiplayer issues.
Do I need to use hamachi or garena or something first?

Worked fine for me.
Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.
I did get a PhysX error though, all I had to do was go to Nvidia's website and install standalone physics drivers.
Also, every time I start the game, I get some cudart.dll error, but the game still starts and runs fine without any visible problems. This is also probably due to my drivers.

when i first tried to unzip the game with 7-zip, i tried to extract it to another folder on my desktop. not sure what the problem was, but i got a few errors with the unzip process.
the second time, i told it to extract to the same folder i torrented, and it didnt give me any problems. enven when i started the game, it was fine

Ok...so I've unpacked the release with no problem, installed the included DirectX, found physxcudart_20.dll and put it into my system32 folder, and yet, the same thing that was happening is continuing to happen...
As soon as I open borderlands.exe:
"Borderlands has stopped working...check online for a solution.."

Guys, if you're having trouble with the physx error message when you try to launch the game, you need to run the 'PhysX_9.09.0408_SystemSoftware' in the physx folder (NOT the physxlocal folder)... no need to google anything, or e-mail anyone like some on here have suggested.
Anyone know how to fix the screen tearing? There's no vsync option...

Here is the deal, first of all, thanks tim2251337x for this great upload. Second of all, everything works perfect, if you follow several simple steps:
1) Install Physix from its folder;
2) Download updates of DirectX from Microsoft site or find link in previous posts;
That's it. Simple as that.
If you're having trouble of unpacking this huge file than you have a problem with WinZip or WinRar, they might be very outdated or your computer is very "dirty" with junk and temp files. When you unzip this file and you get some crazy error than most probably you have a trouble with your RAM, I had this kind of problem before when my RAM was kind of effed up and I couldn't unzip or install any program without going thru a helluva frustration and computer restarts. I'm playing this game on somewhat very outdated computer, it has Pentium 4 3.4Ghz, 2 gigs of PC-400 Kingston HyperX RAM, 500 gig WD SATA II Black Caviar 32MB Cache HDD and MSI motherboard - not overclocked, Nvidia 7600GS 512MB video card - everything works excellent. Just take care of your rig and follow the advice and you''l be Okay, but if you're dumb beyond any salvation than nobody and nothing can help you.

My guess is that it checks for the save file in your documents, not the actual game. That's how Mass Effect worked. But you can always pirate both BL1 and BL2, i got the extra skins :p

I'm gonna save you guys a shit load of trouble. Assuming that your phsyx and directx are both up to date (hell even if you think or don't think just try this). There is a file named "cudart.dll" in the "Binaries" folder, make a copy of it in the same folder, rename it to "physxcudart_20.dll" (if you can't see the .dll that means you don't have show extension on, in which case just rename cudart to physxcudart_20) and boom it should work like a charm.
The game is supposed to use cudart.dll but for some reason it redirects to physxcudart_20.dll.

The physxcudart.dll error still keeps on appearing for me, but it doesn't really matter since after I press okay everything works. Will try 3cchi's solution later. Currently playing a level 42 Mordecai with this and everything seems to be fine on max resolution (everything else on medium though, since I'm using AMD graphics), except for the fps loss in Sledge's area (on both playthroughs 1 and 2) but setting the resolution one notch down solved it. Currently at 0.873 ratio, will continue seeding until whenever. Thanks for the great upload tim!

I looked through the comments and found this problem only a few times... Didn't find any answers though.
I been at this for a couple days now.
I was playing and everything worked fine, no saving problems or anything. Then one day it stopped, I click the icon and nothing. I click the binary I had made the icon shortcut from and nothing.
I tried:
Running as Administrator
Changing location of the files
Re-downloading it
Updating DirectX & PhysX
Took off all windows security for the brief moment (now back up since it didn't help)
Downloaded other versions (ones with other errors) from other people, but prefer this one.
I'm thinking it might have to do with a windows update, but not sure. I'm running Windows 7 x64 Bit.
Let me know if you need more details, and if there something that I can do to fix this.

I have updates Direct X and PhysX. I have an 8-core 3.1ghz cpu, 16GB RAM, and a 1GB Memory graphics card. I can definitely run this game. No errors while extracting.

Guys i have the solution! the only thing Iansmith didnt try was PATCHING THE GAME. For me, i used the 1.4.1 patch here and you simply follow the instructions on the torrent. after that it gave me the PHYSICSCUDART_20.dll error, but a quick google search and a DOWNLOAD and it was sitting happily in my BINARIES. after that, ran like new again

perhaps you should manually copy rld.dll from the 7z patch to the game folder. Sometimes the anti-virus softs would block it automatically (including windows defender), but u have to have this file to run the game. It would be reported as a virus file, but u know, it is just a hack file to run the game.

There is no virus. The file that MSE says is a virus is not a virus.
For people that click the .exe and nothing happens it's because your virus software removed the rld.dll file when you unpacked the RAR
Just open the RAR and and go into the binaries folder and manually copy the rld.dll file to your already unpacked binaries file. Make sure you virus software is turned off or makes an exception. This is NOT a virus.

Anyone having the physxcudart.dll issue,here's how to fix it: Open the Binaries folder and locate the cudart.dll file and copy it and paste it back to make a duplicate dll file,then rename the duplicate file to physxcudart.dll This should work fine.

At start it didn't work for me and crashed when i runned borderlands.exe then i redownloaded the torrent and now it works perfectly. If you have any problems be sure to update both Nvidia Psysx and your DirectX.

I opened up my task manager and tried launching the game again, and it looks like it opens for a split second than instantly closes.
