I rip all my dvd's for iPods but at a higher bitrate then most (1400) because I also like to be able to play my iPod though my 50" TV with out a lot of lost quality.
Because of the higher bit rate your iPod with take a few seconds longer then normal to start playing the movie, this it perfectly normal.
