I guess you are using Windows Media Player which does not natively support MP4 files.
Try using the free and open source (g'teed virus/spyware etc. free) VLC Player

Most of the people that download this watch on their TV's via their console or Apple TV's - all of these apps have support for H.264 MP4's
VLC also supports MP4 out of the box, just install and enjoy.
