It is the most important work of Kurdish writer and poet Ehmedê Xanî (or Ahmad Khani) (1651-1707).
Mem and Zin is based on a traditional fairy tale, which was passed by word of mouth.
For Kurds Mem and Zin are symbols for the Kurdish people and the Kurdish country, which are separated and cannot come together.
