A NOTE FOR SONY PS3 OWNERS !!!
I was able to use tsMuxeR to "convert" this MKV to a M2TS file. This is a fairly simple and quick procedure that includes no re-encoding nor any transcoding.
The resulting M2TS file played back perfectly on my SONY PS3.
