Chicago XIV (14)

Okay, well this marks the end of Chicago's run on Columbia Records. Columbia was pretty disappointed with Chicago's performance in its last few albums. Here's why, their highest chart ratings: IX: #1 X: #1 XI: #6 Hot Streets: #12 13: #83 14: #71 Owch. Plus the only single from 13 reached a height of #83. And 14 #56. But there are some good things about this album. It is pared back, not quite as Disco. It is also the last Donnie Dacus album which is good -- because he sucks. And Laudir, the Brazilian percussionist who jumps up and down playing the marimba took his funky name and hair back to South America. Altogether, this album isn't bad. It's a necessary stepping stone and one that probably spurred the band to come back, on another label, with three successive knockouts.
