It looks like you can unlock a 2.2.1 iphone only if you use the older baseband 02.28.0. The baseband 02.30.03 cannot be unlocked from what I can tell. One of these tools and I don't know which one yet can great a custom 2.2.1/02.28.0 installation instead of the normal 2.2.1/02.30.03 installation from Apple.
Or wait for UltraSn0w and then unlock 3.0.
