What naming conventions are used for GMA X3100 or below? Does this refer to video/graphics? What be classed as "below"? What is HD2600? Thx

GMA950 and etc. are below X3100.
The GMA cards are on-board Intel graphics cards. The HD2600 is an ATI card, the same one I have, and I can run this on max settings in bootcamp, so you'll be fine.

Nope, just mount and play, no HL2 required. And it does work SORT OF on a macbook. I tested it on a white macbook GMA X3100. It was ok, however, once you hit a loading screen, say bye bye, that is where the fun ends. So I would say it is better if you have NVIDIA graphics, but still, i encourage you download.

seems to work fine on a macbook, though i seem to have trouble with navigating menu screens- normally this is fine, but i'd like to tweak the options a little so right-clicking isn't so obtuse and to turn on subtitles for the dialogue- anyone know the trick to them?

The main menu's navigation is way off by default. you can work around this by clicking a couple hundred pixels right and a couple hundred below the point you actually want to click. when you manage to get to the video settings and change the resolution and aspect ratio to the native resolution and aspect ratio of you're screen the whole menu will work as expected.
The real bummer for me is that as soon a the white drones come into play(level16 i think), the app crashes. Anyone got a solution for this?

yeah...on other portal torrents for osx level 16 has been a big problem. I don't really have a solution, sorry, but i suggest that you make sure that graphics options are turned alllll the way down, this always speeds things up for me.

Luckily I dont have the problem with the turret level. In fact I just finish the game.
If help in any how, I have a macbook (not pro) with the X3100, 2gb ram.
I do have the problem with the screen, but I went to video and change for widescreen and everything was good. Later I put everything in low, bilinear and that stuff. I don't use more than that quality, so I dont know if have to do anything with the crash at level 16.

work fine, and i already finish the game.. it was awesome, but there;re few disturbing broken graphic.. such as the orb launcher, the elevator... sometime they're visible sometimes not.

Have you downloaded it yet? Try with Tiger, I tested on Leopard, but surly there is a chance, I don't think it makes that much of a difference.

I have a problem, I am running on a macbook 5,1 which is the aluminum one, with an Nvidia GeForce 9100M graphics card and that is fine, but for some reason the click on the mouse wont work. I mean - I see the cursor and can move around in the game but when i click the mouse/touchpad nothing happens.
If anyone has any suggestions or help i'd be very grateful. Thanks!

use your arrow pad to get to the settings and change the graphics settings. Then mouse will work.

the game runs very smooth on my macbook and i could fix the mouse problem, but the game quitting after every loading screen just annoyed me so much that i quit playing. if any fixed it plz tell me, it is a great game.

Yes I do! To run Valve's portal on mac you need at least 10.5.8 version. I have no idea why the software requirements are so damn high...but I have to use this to get portal running on my mac.

These bugs are caused because this version is not native, is a version of cider, so it runs perfect. Try the native version on steam, works much better
